🎃 THE HALLOWEEN FAIR 🦇
Nothing but frights in these festive nights!

It's noticeable — the coming autumn nights are growing dimmer, bats start circling the skies more often, and a lone wolf howling at every occasion towards the moon's appearance. An inexplicable sense of dread permeates your being as you begin to feel the hairs rise on your skin, and you might just chalk it up to only the chilly fall wind passing by. But some take to believing these are signs pointing that the night of Halloween is drawing near. A chance for ghouls and goblins to come out and play, and maybe earn a sweet treat or two along the way.

Somewhere around the outskirts of a small country town, its people gather around to set up shop and open their annual Halloween Fair to all. While they mostly bring in people from neighboring towns to join in the celebration, unbeknownst to the townsfolk their event is about to get a little more festive with the sudden influx of visitors from beyond their borders. And perhaps from beyond the grave as well...?

This is just an open RP post with a sandbox-like setting. While there's some scenarios premade for your roleplaying needs, you can mess around with it as much or as little as you want. Feel free to use it for voicetesting, create cross-canon shenanigans, or develop a ship even further. You can carry the story over to your musebox if you'd like too. And you can re-use this post as many times as you'd like (until it hits the comment limit.) So bring your blorbos, your originals, your AUs, your friends and your friends' friends along for the fun!

Arriving at the fairgrounds, you'll find the whole place heavily decorated with an assortment of spooky-themed ornaments: glowing jack o' lanterns, paper bats lined on garlands, plastic skeletons in comical poses, bedsheet ghosts hanging on a wire, a statue of a famous movie monster or two looming over you menacingly, and so much more. The sounds of whimsical theremins and sinister pipe organs could be heard playing in the background. All the stalls have even installed fake cobwebs to match the vibe. And some of the townsfolk, even the visitors too, have taken to dressing up in costumes for the festivities.

It's fortunate that the fair doesn't charge you for admission. So like a ghost hovering and lost, you can haunt around the grounds as much as you please. Grab a candy apple, try your luck at a pie-eating contest, get lost in the cornfield maze, or maybe go trick-or-treating while you're at it. There's plenty of things to do for you to have a scary good time!

❖ 🎭 Becoming The Mask

➤ Location: Abby Small's Costume Rentals

 

While it isn't required for everyone to wear a costume for the event, you're definitely encouraged to dress up while exploring the fairgrounds. Besides, wouldn't it be more fun to stalk the grounds as the grim reaper? And you get bonus discounts from food stalls for being in the spirit of it all!

If you were convinced enough to do so, you were then directed to the costume rental store under a large tent and try something from there. No doubt the store has a wide array of costumes in all shapes and sizes from the mundane, to the grotesque, to the avant-garde. You can dress up as a doctor, a zombie, a legally distinct superhero, or even a giant avocado. There's even matching costumes for you and your partner to wear together for laughs. There's no rhyme or reason why some of these costumes are made really, this is all in good fun.

But once you've made your choice, you start to gain this strange unconscious urge to act out as the costume you're wearing. And soon enough your mind is absent, instead fully entranced to play the role as long as the mask stays on. Though not all hope is lost — if you have enough willpower you can break its spell. Having a friend pull it off is a viable option as well, but it won't be easy with how firmly it's stuck to you.

❖ 🎯 It's Fair Play!

➤ Location: Fairground Games

 

Like any town fair, there's no shortage of finding entertainment while you're here. After all, the spooky season isn't only just for scares. Sometimes a little laughter and enjoyment goes a long way. If you're feeling competitive, how about you try your hand at Apple Bobbing, or the Pie-Eating Contest if you have a big enough appetite to do it. The Halloween-flavored Ring Toss game is also a good one, where you toss rings around some witch hat shaped pegs instead. Or how about some Haunted BoOoOoOwling!! and find out if you can strike all ten ghostly pins in one go. Winning in any of these games will reward you with an assortment of prizes (plush toys, novelty items, a huge pumpkin, etc.), so it's definitely worth playing them!

But if you prefer something more chill, then show your creativity and carve a funny face onto a pumpkin of your choice over at the Pumpkin Carving corner. Your creation will be featured alongside many others like an art piece in an exhibit. You'll also be rewarded if your pumpkin is the most presentable of the bunch, so you don't get to leave empty-handed.

A couple of rides are built for the Halloween Fair as well. The Drop Tower is a favorite amongst fair-goers looking for thrills, Or the simpler Ferris Wheel if you'd like to view the whole fairground and the cornfields surrounding it from above. They even have a huge Inflatable Bouncy Haunted Mansion for everyone to hop into and embrace their inner child. Yes, it even comes with a ballpit!

There's likely more that hasn't been mentioned — as there are other horror-themed games and rides you can try. So at least nothing will keep you bored while being here.

❖ 🎃 Pumpkin Spice & Everything Nice

If you aren't up for gaming excitement, or you just happen to have more to spare in your wallet, then there's plenty of shops to check out in the Fairground Market.

Much of them sell local produce from this town and neighboring communities — apples, pears, carrots, corn, the like. And each of them come with their own unique varieties too. But you can also grab a cup of Bewitching Pumpkin Spice Latte or a slice of Monstrous Pumpkin Pie, or even some Scarily Spicy Pumpkin Glazed Donuts if you're feeling peckish. Of course, if you're not the biggest gourd gourmet, there's always the usual savory fairground treats like corndogs and burgers you can find along the way. Food carts are pretty much scattered everywhere, so you are spoiled for choice.

Food isn't the only thing the fair has to offer. There's an assortment of trinkets and oddities on sale if you look around, it's not too dissimilar to that of a flea market. There's a tent selling secondhand clothing of the retro and modern kind, while another showcases curios from around the world if you fancy spotting some forgotten family treasure or a cursed relic from a distant past. You'll even find a stall featuring spellbooks and occult paraphernalia that would spark curiosity. There is just about everything here you can find in the market area. Why not buy a rare novelty or two to take home with as something to remember by?

❖ 🌽 Lost in the Maize

➤ Location: The Corn Maze

 

It might not sound like the most thrilling attraction in the fair, but getting lost in a corn maze can be quite harrowing especially for the directionally-challenged out there. At every side all you'll find is towering cornstalks that spread as far as your eye could see. Corn here, corn there, corn everywhere. You'd soon realize how hard it is to discern which way to go when the maze is surrounded by... well, maize. Luckily there are a few distinguishing markers that will help you on your way such as a jack-o'lantern or a scarecrow, just as long as you keep your feet on the trail that's laid out for you to traverse.

While normally it's best played during the day, no one is stopping you from going through the maze at the darkest hours of the night however. Unless you have a flashlight with you, it isn't the most ideal way to do it. But whether you were dared to or just felt like it, the pathways still remain open for you to explore.

"Be careful." the owner eyes over you, "Strange things lurk in the night y'know."

According to the owner, apparently there's a local legend about creatures that skulk in the fields at night, preying at the undiscerning and appear to them in the form of their worst fears imaginable. You may get a sense that the old farmer is just trying to persuade you to think it over and visit the maze while the sun is back up, however the choice to pursue this challenge is ultimately left up to you.

❖ 👻 Ghouls' Night Out

➤ Location: Town Cemetery

 

Maybe you're the type who just wanted to get away from all of that cheer, and decided to make your hauntings around somewhere quiet, and perhaps a little bit somber. The town's cemetery is a little ways off from the fairgrounds, but it's worth visiting if you're not in the mood to partake in the festivities. Surely you'll find yourself at peace just like those who lay six feet under your feet.

However the dead think otherwise.

Much to your surprise (or not), there is in fact a morbidly grand party being held here of all places. Apparitions of lives once lived are seen dancing, communing, rough-housing, having a ball of a time. Some of them are playing music, using their precious strings and brass they carried with them to the afterlife. It's like death never bothered them. Or perhaps the unbridled joy of having to be on this plane of existence again is just a distraction from that. Who's to say? What is certain is that they seem unbothered by your presence. In fact, one of them even welcomes and persuades you to join in the fun.

It's not too crowded though, some take to floating above instead to leave more space for others. Many of them are former townsfolk who knew each other from long ago. Old friends, distant relatives, long lost rivals, all reunite in the spirit of the season. There's no buffet table around if you're looking for something to snack on, but there had been some weeks-old food lying on graves that only the spirits could enjoy. A few would be willing to share, but there's no guarantee they would be edible.

And then something catches your eye — a certain someone you know who shouldn't be around, or alive at all. Maybe that frightens you, whether they be friend or foe, to see them among the lively dead. And to what reason they have for being here, you'll just have to be brave and ask.

❖ 🍭 Trick or Treat!

If the fair itself is too much for you and prefer something that's a tad simpler, then there's always the old classic Halloween tradition of putting on a fun costume, knocking on strangers' doors, and hope for some sugary delights to fall in your hands as a reward. And if they don't hand the sweets over... Well that's where the "Trick" comes in, doesn't it?

Although don't expect everyone offering candy as you stand on their doorstep. Some neighbors would rather treat visitors with granola bars, bags of chips, jars of play-doh, toys, or even packs of Pokémon cards instead. Maybe a kindly old woman offers you some freshly-baked muffins or chocolate chip cookies just for stopping by. If it's not to your liking, you better take your complaints to them. Though they'll probably slam their doors in your face as a result.

Then again, you don't always have to follow tradition to a T. You could loiter around in the streets, watch the Halloween parade and marvel at everyone's costumes, or gaze at whatever stars you can make out in the inky darkness above you. Maybe you can disregard the "Treat" part entirely and jump into the "Trick" at full-force — pulling pranks like a livestreamer causing mayhem around the neighborhood. You might get arrested for that, but it's worth it if you're in it for the thrill of it all, or just enjoy being a complete jackass during this night of all frights.

🎭 1. Becoming The Mask

[After dismissing the notion of vampire, doctor, and priest as options for a costume, Vanitas finally settles one hell of get-up: that of an angel knight, which is about the furthest thing from what he is normally. It weighs a bit and is cumbersome, but it covers his body completely and hides his scars, so it meets the requirements.

Only as the night goes on, he starts acting more and more daring, walking past a game of axe throwing without heeding axes being tossed, riding on the outside of the ferris wheel, until finally it culminates with him looking like he's about to leap off a nearby cliff in an attempt to fly. Might want to stop him on that.]

🌽 2. Lost in the Maize

[Now out of costume, thank the heavens (hah), Vanitas decides that the corn maze could be a fun time now that the sun is setting. He's not that tall, being only 5'9", so the walls of the maze loom over him, blocking the fading light and making his unnaturally blue eyes seem brighter than they already are.

He strides with purpose through the maze, not following any real methodology like keeping to one wall, but instead going left or right as his whims dictate. Somehow he seems to luck out most of the time, never finding a dead end, until eventually there seems to be... another him? Only this one has blue spider web-like markings covering his entire body, up to and including beginning to reach his face. Like the thing is alive and trying to consume him. The sight makes Vanitas go pale and stumble backwards, bumping into his companion and nearly knocking them both over. Stammering, he shakes his head.]

N-No... Damn it, I don't--!!

👻 3. Ghouls' Night Out

[Perhaps Vanitas ought not to have come. Dealing with the dead is never pleasant, and even more so once they've risen and have decided to party like it's the end of the world. Yet he thinks he can handle it. Apparitions and spooks are nothing in the face of cold hard logic and science. Right?

Or so he thought, until the sight of a mysterious person causes his jaw to drop and his eyes to widen in both amazement and fear. He staggers, tripping over his own feet in his haste to move towards the person of indistinct gender, his hand slowly rising to stretch out towards this beautiful being with dark skin. Quietly, he sets his jaw, eyes unblinking.]

And after he shakes himself off from the shock, a now worried Luke decides to follow behind the doctor and see what's wrong.

And that's when he finds Vanitas walking towards the cliff. His eyes widen and he panics.]

Wait! Hold on, stop!

[On impulse, Luke grabs onto his arm, pulling the doctor away from the edge and attempts to secure him from going any further.]

So declares the scythe wielding figure who hovers nearby, hooded and draped in black, skulls adorning his outfit. Golden eyes gleam from beneath his cowl, his expression stern.

His eyes sweep the crowd as if searching for someone, then settle on you. Ominously, he begins to float closer.

This must be someone who has gotten a little too into their costume, right? … Right?

🎯 It's Fair Play!

"I don't understand the point of this tradition," Thanatos says from where he's hard at work carving a pumpkin. The carving itself is still a work in progress, but it looks like he's aiming for … a rat…? Maybe? A closer look may be necessary.

Before you can peek, however, he continues.

"These gourds will soon rot, and everyone will have wasted their time. Why don't mortals choose a longer-lasting medium?"

With a 'Bewitching Pumpkin Spice Latte' clutched between his hands, Thanatos stands back from the crowd and quietly sips his drink. He seems more at ease right now. Perfectly at home with the moon high above and the night air on his cheeks. Despite the chill in the air, he doesn't seem uncomfortable, even though a full half of his muscled chest is on display.

He glances over at you, catching you looking, and raises an eyebrow.

"What?" he intones, though the question has no bite to it.

"Aaand that's my cue to be somewhere else!" Charles pretends he's not a little freaked as he grins and spins on a heel to take off into the crowd, dark overcoat swinging in his wake.

Hypnos is surprisingly not trying to peek at Thanatos' work... because he's busy with his own pumpkin. It is not a single cohesive piece but, like the doodles on his reports, a menagerie of flowers, skulls, and any other small thing that strikes his fancy.

"I think it's just fun to make things, even if it doesn't last forever." He answers, astonishingly insightful for once. But then, what's more ephemeral than the dreams he crafts? "Plus if it's not very good, you don't have to look at it for long!"

It's one thing for a ferris wheel to stop when you're at the top, and you get a moment to enjoy the view. It's quite another for the ferris wheel to get stuck while you're at the top.

How long have you been up there? It's hard to keep track. Long enough that the man you're with—tall, handsome, and antlered—has started to shift uncomfortably.

"I apologize," he says abruptly. "This is probably my fault."

Moros lingers near the edge of the cemetery, an uncertain expression on his face.

"I don't wish to ruin the atmosphere," he says when you try to convince him to go inside. "There's a good chance I'm responsible for at least some of their deaths."

And even if he's not, Doom is rarely a welcome guest.

"Let me see if I have this correct," Moros says as you walk through the streets together. He's dressed in his usual attire, except that someone (you?) has strung some festive orange lights through his antlers.

"We demand a treat from these mortals. If they fail to give us one, we play a 'trick.'" A pause. "So we're extorting them."

"But that's part of it yeah? Like, no one ever says no!" Charles had indeed decorated his new buddy with lights. He himself was done up with some pale makeup, and some of that grey hairspray to make himself look 'dead.'

Or well, more dead than he was. He'd also added a little sheet-ghost pin to his lapel just to add a little something. And honestly, that might be kept, it's kinda fun.

"It's like an unspoken agreement. If the porch light's on, and you're in costume, they're givin' out candy."

[ You hear something crashing its way through the corn. It has an unsteady stride and the nearer it gets, one can hear colorful swears being hissed through clenched teeth. Little cries of pain as he is poked by stiff, broken stalks.]

[ All at once he bursts forth. A towering, gangling man sporting an ugly paisley shirt and a pair of antlers skids onto the maze path. He rakes straw and leaves out of his hair and shakes himself all over.]

[ His yellow eye shines dimly in the dark as he eyes you somewhat apologetically. He is suddenly aware of the ruckus he's just made, especially with the farmer's warnings and all. He doesn't want to upset lost drunk people or whoever he's bumped into. ]

[ The Halloween festival in Cheddarburg had been in full swing that chill autumn night and damn it all, Dolly had to spend it being lost. Sure, she could teleport, but, that was too much of a risk to be spotted. Instead, Dolly went about it the normal way...almost. ]

[Shuffling through a corn maze in a ballgown is an extremely difficult task. So difficult, in fact, that the sun has managed to set while she's trying to find her way out.

She has no trouble seeing in the dark, her species adapted for the dark, cloudy skies of an eternal night. But she's entirely unprepared for the maze's attempt to show her her worst fears. Last time something like this happened, her worst fear was disappointing her mother. But now, they've reconciled, and her worst fear has changed...]

[Her yelling can be heard throughout the maze, and perhaps even beyond in the rest of the fair.]

No, no, no!!! I promise, they were lying!! I'm a normal human woman! Aliens don't exist, that'd be ridiculous!!!!

[Anyone who follows the sound of the yelling will find Pleakley cornered into a dead end, desperately trying to explain herself to what seems to be a very generic-looking man in a pink polo shirt.]

She sits on the grass at the side of the street, resting. As she watches the rest of the trick-or-treaters go by, she takes two lollipops out from her bag, unwrapping them and licking one with each tongue. Ah... the perfect combination of flavors.]

It's Fair Play
[ It's rare that Agnès got to enjoy events such as these without actually having been involved in booth set up, coordination, budgeting or any of those things. Being able to just walk around as she liked without any responsibilities was new, but not unwelcome. It did leave her with more time on her hands than she was used to at places like this. She had chosen to come dressed up as a maid for her Halloween costume, partly for fun and partly out of respect for her companion back home, who was an incredible person.

As she was carrying a pumpkin orange cat plush with a little bow tie and top hat, she had obviously one one of the games, and was momentarily torn between which one to attempt next. Pie eating - forget it. She didn't have that big of an appetite, and it was messy, and imagine the -calories-. Pumpkin carving looked like fun, but .. the drop tower also looked a little fun. And scary. At the moment she was craning her neck back to try to see the top, backing up step by step - careful she doesn't step on your toe! (Literally). ]

That's incredibly high...

[ Thankfully she's found all of her family heirlooms - at least the ones she knew about - but it wouldn't hurt to have a peek at some of the ones that were on display. Who knows, she might find something that she wanted to bring home as a gift for a friend -- hopefully not a cursed one. As such she was wandering along the booths with a pumpkin spiced latte in hand, absently sipping at it as she kept a keen eye out and a hand on her purse. The last thing she wanted was for her own distraction to end up with something of hers being stolen - and then subsequently sold on the market after all the work they went into recovering them. Still this /was/ a fair and with it being that she couldn't help but remark to someone nearby. ]

Do you think these are really legitimate 'relics from the past'?

[ She sounded a little skeptical, but wasn't completely dismissing the idea. ]

Lost in the Maize - Morning (possibly to evening)
[ Agnès was admittedly curious about what 'lurked in the darkness' but she was hoping that was just a story crafted to scare the visitors. For now though, she was here with purpose - one that wasn't recreational, this time. She'd picked up a request from a neighbor, who's son had gotten himself lost on the fairgrounds. After having a short chat with the person monitoring the maze, he had informed her that he thought he saw a little boy run into the maze an hour ago.

Wandering about in the maze, she kept an eye - and ear - out for potential mischievous little children, letting out a surprised little squeak when she came across someone else in the maze. ]

Oh! Excuse me, but did you see a little boy about eight years old in here?

It’s Fair Play
(She has never visited a autumnal/Halloween fair where until now (in fact, she came from a time and a country where modern Halloween parties aren’t in the mainstream), still that doesn’t stop Anya from wanting to check out the fairground and see what it has to offer. This Grand Duchess will admit: the fair organizers did went all out for this event. Also her dog Pooka is there to see the grounds. This one could give the formal balls her family had hosted a run for their money with how elaborate the decorations are.

The games have certainly gained her intrigue so she headed for the Ring Toss first and try her luck in there. Determined to get at least one prize, she stands in front of the ring pole, wooden rings in hand and Pooka barking on for his master.)

Gosh, this is so many food to choose from. Let me see…

(After having played some of the fair games, Anya figures that it is time to get something to eat and relax from the excitement. Pooka whimpers that he couldn’t get to eat the treats but he is still happy to see them on display. Russians in her timeline aren’t the biggest gourd concessioners from what she could recall nor did her entire family, however she is interested in trying out some and enjoy the seasonal flavors.

While it took her a while to figure which food and drinks, she eventually settled for a cup of Bewitching Pumpkin Spice Latte and a bucket of popcorn. If anyone happens to pass by her and Pooka, she might even offer you some popcorn and ask you about the pumpkin food craze.)

Ghouls’ Night Out
(Perhaps visiting the cemetery was a bit of a bad idea. She should have known to not be a party crasher with the dead having a ball in there yet there she is, standing there awkwardly with Pooka hiding behind her legs and cowering in fear.

The air feels chilly but the atmosphere is vibrant and full of music and jubilant laughs. However something, or rather someone, from her life is there among the dead having fun that took up her attention as she stares at a young boy chatting with some of the child ghosts.)

[ While Anya is browsing snacks, Agnès, dressed as a maid and carrying a pumpkin spice latte herself, was meandering the grounds as well. For the most part she was quite entertained - it was similar to some of the festivals she's attended back home, albeit on a smaller scale - at least if they were talking her home city. This one was on par with some of the towns outside of Edith, but just as nice. Catching sight of Pooka though, she stopped short and gave a small giggle. ]

Becoming the Mask
Huh, this isn’t that bad. I might consider getting this one over there.

(Harry has a very complicated relationship with Halloween holiday for most of his life. For one, he doesn’t mind attending Halloween parties in Hogwarts but at the same time, the fact that his parents were killed on this day has haunted him for a long time. No one should lose one’s parents in a holiday to a horrible megalomaniac overlord as an infant.

Hoping to move on from the holiday grief, Harry decided to bite the bullet and attend the Halloween fair. He went the costume to find a costume for him to wear. The young man has settled for becoming a very legally distinct archeologist and gets into the costume. Once he gets into the costume and got out of the store though, the normally reserved wizard soon begins to act very un-Harry like: getting to play around with the whip, chasing after any treasure/artifact thieves, and being overly paranoid over snakes.)

Okay, you got this, Harry. You can do it.

(Once snapped out of his costume induced phase, Harry can hopefully relax for once and enjoy the fair without losing himself to his costume. The first game he is trying now, bowling, is proving to be more fun than he was expecting and he is giving all what he has as he’s aiming his bowling ball at the pins.)

Okay, here goes nothing.

(He tosses the bowl onto the ground and it spins towards the pins. Much to his own surprise, he is able to knock out all but two pins on his first try and he is ecstatic in seeing his first attempt being successful.)

Excellent! I should be able to be get the last two pins soon enough.

Lost in the Maize
(Mazes and Harry don’t usually get along especially with what happened the last time he went into one in his Fourth Year. That one was not great, not great at all. Luckily for him, his costume is not stuffy enough that moving around will be difficult to navigate.

The dark skies and the tall hedges aren’t the things that he is scared of the most: as he continues to walk around the maze, he is taken back by the eerily chilly air on his neck. He turns around to find a single floating cloaked creature, out to attack)

Oh no! Not again! Get away from me, Dementor! Get away!

(He tries to run away from the Dementor in question, tears running down his cheeks, not noticing that there is also someone else in the maze right in front of him. Apologies in advance for he is letting his Dementor fears to mess with his head tonight. He is not usually this scared all the time.)

[ She watches him, albeit in no costume of her own. She's just dressed in her magician outfit. It's complete with coat, tails, and naturally the fishnets that she's known for and watches the kid with the bowling ball almost curiously from the next lane. While she's not cheating with magic (yet) she is getting a halfway decent score.

Halfway. It's by far not the best and her last roll of the ball only netted her three pins. They rest are close enough together that Zatanna should be able to (in theory) get to them, but it's all about skill and her skills are more... backwards. She stops in her lane, heels clicking slightly -- probably not the best call on these grounds, but was she going to wear those yucky shoes? Never. She hesitates, but she smiles wide. ]

Hey, nice one. You ever played this game before? [ She used to more frequently when she she was younger back when digital hobbies were less common. Yikes, that makes her feel old. She lifts her bowl and winks. ] Looking for a strike, myself!

[Today Riku is here at the fair not as a customer, but as hired help — as he's tasked to handle the stall's front with the shop's owner while the event's going on. He may be an alien superhero, but that kind of work only comes in for free. He still needs to get that instant noodle money somewhere, you know?]

Welcome!

[The young man greets you with a bright grin. While he's aware of the holiday, he's not exactly well-dressed for it. His "costume" only consists that of a plastic superhero mask hanging over his head. He even follows up his greeting with an energetic heroic pose. It's not much, but it's the thought that counts.

The stall itself mostly contains sweet and savory snacks, along with a few colorful toys and trinkets, all imported over from Japan. Those coming from the island nation, and perhaps from the countryside or from the olden days of post-war Japan, might see it as somewhat nostalgic as they're treats you'd usually find in a dagashi candy store. Stuff like rice crackers, konpeito, ramune, hard candies, and more. Apart from snacks, on a plastic folding table at one side there seems to be stacks of old Japanese kids' magazines and comic books on display too. Most of these come in at an affordable price too.]

Oh, are you wearing a costume? If you buy two of anything, you can take one more, and a free halloween mask as a bonus!

2.) 🎡 It's Fair Play! (FERRIS WHEEL)

[After a day's work, Riku finally gets a chance to explore around the fair for himself. While Riku is mostly familiar with the kinds of festivals he's had been into back home, he's a lot eager to check out this one after seeing a couple of videos of Japanese travel vloggers visiting events like these. He's tried out a few simple games like ring toss and bowling, but only came out winning a weirdly cute life-size flounder stuffed toy in one of them.

Now rather worn out, Riku decides to hitch a ride on the ferris wheel and see the fairgrounds from above. If you're already in the car, then you're not alone anymore as Riku is forced into sitting in as well, with giant fish in hand. He smiles at you cordially before settling to take the seat across yours.

Once the wheel starts and gradually carries the cart at a certain height, Riku couldn't help but lean against the open window on one side as he takes in the sights below. ...Isn't that dangerous? It's pretty high up and Riku doesn't look concerned about possibly falling out of his seat. Maybe you should call him out on it.]

3.) 👻 Ghouls' Night Out

[Though grateful that he's not going alone, now that he has you by his side, it's uncertain for what reason Riku felt the urge to walk into the cemetery at such deathly late hours in the night. But the young man has a gut feeling that he had to be here. Like someone's calling him and it's both unsettling, and familiar. He needed to know, and put his feelings to rest once he figures out what it is.

The party did come as a surprise for the young man, but only for a moment. He's far too focused on what, or rather who had been drawing him in here. As he walks past every specter beckoning him to join in the festivities, he soon spots someone — a translucent silver humanoid figure with red lines marked around his body. His glowing golden eyes move towards Riku with a slight tilt of a head. And despite not being able to express any emotion, you get a sense that he's smiling at him.

Riku however frowns, lets out a sigh, and gives you a pained look.]

Do you think you can help me put my father to rest?

[It's clear in his voice that he's so tired of seeing him again.]

(Says a woman who is currently dressed as a scarecrow as she glances at the items Riku is selling. Most of the stuff on sale are very different and new to what she is used to but they do look cool for a woman from 1920’s Europe. Now Anya isn’t exactly sure if the money she has on hand (which is a mix of 1920’s francs and rubles) will suffice for a purchase in the modern times, but if it could help this young guy out, she will definitely do it.

There is also a little gray mutt puppy who is cheerfully barking at him with wide eyes and an energetic tongue panting. Riku’s demeanor does in some way remind her of her dearly departed baby brother. Had Alexei survived that horrible night years ago, the two would be good friends by now.)

[ It's Fair Play ]

[You can find a strange little bunny looking creature trying out all of the various games. Whether it's Apple Bobbing, to which she falls into the barrel and cackles while taking a bunch of apples with her, the Pie Eating Contest, to which Labubu has eaten her fill and has fallen asleep on the table. The Ring Toss goes rather well but the Haunted Boooowling Labubu has no luck at. The ball is half of her size and twice her weight.

Her favorite spot though by far... is the Bouncy Haunted Mansion. Try to avoid a tiny elf flying at your face and giggling all along the way.]

[Labubu isn't a stranger to oddities. She lives in the Fairy Forest after all. Seeing what things the humans have either been gifted or have discovered in quite intriguing to her.

Also free food. That's always good. She even totters into the Second Hand Clothing section, curious if anything will fit her.]

[Pleakley's been trying to decide what clothing to buy. Stuck with a limited budget and wanting to buy way more than she can afford, she's spent a lot of time in the secondhand clothing section.

As Labubu walks in, though, Pleakley looks over- and her eye immediately widens in shock.

Alien, she assumes. Non-disguised alien, in a place that isn't Kokaua Town. She acts without a second thought, grabbing a large hat and dropping it over Labubu's head.]

What are you doing? [Pleakley whisper-yells, leaning down.] Are you even trying to fit in with them?

[Pleakley has severely misunderstood the situation, with Labubu specifically as well as the general situation at the fair.]

Luke fon Fabre | Tales of the Abyss

[So there's two things: First is that Luke has never been to a fair before. Much of his life revolves around being forcefully confined in his comfy manor home, so such experiences found in the outside world are foreign to him. Second is that he's never heard of Halloween. That's not exactly a tradition widely celebrated in his world. He knows some holidays — some probably celebrated only in his hometown, but this isn't one of them.

But the fact of the matter now is that, like any curious teenager, he intends to mess about and see. With no guards, no servants, no parents keeping him at bay, Luke embraces the chance of freedom he's given and starts exploring the fairgrounds. He's got a good feeling about this place and he hopes it'll keep him amused for a while!]


1.) 🎭 Becoming The Mask

[On his quest to find the coolest costume he could wear for the day, the owner recommended the young noble with a get-up that "exudes the aura of a mighty, flashy hero". Of course, words like those made it all the more eager for Luke to put it on and try.

He isn't sure what to make of his costume at first. Luke doesn't have a clue about ninjas or what they're about. Compounded by the fact that he's a little embarrassed walking around with it. The fabric feels thin, everything feels a bit tight, and the mask just covers his entire face. ...Though he would eventually come to realize that it's better that way.

After a while, Luke would take to the fairgrounds wandering around and twirling his plastic toy sword in his hand, seemingly comfortable in his costume — a far cry from how he reacted earlier. Somehow, for some reason, he's feeling all fired up and is ready to take on evil of all kinds in the vicinity. The trouble begins when Luke suddenly starts climbing on shop stalls, jumping from roof to roof, and Naruto Running like the ninja he's supposed to be. He'll even throw (plastic toy) throwing stars towards anyone looking or dressed as a monster. That's just how it works, you know!!

Of course, he isn't just some ninja. He's a ninja who will not hide. And he'll make sure everyone sees that.]

2.) 🍭 Trick or Treat!

[After that AWFUL costume fiasco he had to go through earlier, Luke storms off from the fairgrounds and decides that costumes are so overrated. Plus, someone did compliment his usual outfit and mistook it as some kind of costume. (Even though he's a bit miffed by that.) So hey, maybe walking around with his own threads is the best choice here. Maybe he'll pass off as a trick-or-treater just by being himself.

And that's exactly what he's doing.

Thus, Luke knocks on the first door and with his chin raised and his arm out holding a little treat basket to claim his reward.]

You. Hand over the candy.

[You could stop him from giving you second-hand embarrassment, or you can watch this play out and laugh at the outcome. Either way, trick-or-treating won't be an easy task for Luke to accomplish.]

And it would seem that Luke has come to regret what he said earlier before entering through the crop-covered labyrinth. Unfortunately, whoever's accompanying with this guy is going to have to take the brunt of his complaints. And he won't stop until the both of them find a way out.]

(While Luke the ninja is Naruto running around the fair, Harry had just barely snapped out of the spell that made him acting brazenly like a fearless archeologist. The costume looks rather pale in comparison to the ninja costume, which ironically fits Harry’s wish to have a normal wizard’s life for once.

He was so embarrassing by his own antics while not being himself from a while ago that he really wants to sink away and hide in the shadows, hoping that nobody could ask why he tried to chase them around with a rope whip prop and a toy gun moments ago. As the young man continues to hide from the crowds, he nearly runs into ninja!Luke like a deer in the headlights.)

Whoa, whoa, whoa! WHOA!

(He barely did what he could to stop his own walking by stepping aside and tries to apologize the masked ninja rather profusely as much as he humanely could.)

Oh, I am so sorry! I didn’t seem to pay attention to where I was walking and I was pre-occupied with my own thoughts to see my surroundings more carefully. I am so sorry, Mr. Ninja.

[Normally Cheria wouldn't be out in these creepy cornfields at all. On her way to elsewhere, however, she thought she'd spotted Asbel running amongst the rustling stalks, a flash of white in the dusk. Initially driven by curiosity into following him, there's also a part of her that wonders if maybe, just maybe, she can turn this into a ~moment~ between the two of them...

("It's dangerous here in the dark," he'll say. "Here, hold my hand so I don't lose you...")

But there's no response when Cheria calls his name. Surely he should be able to hear her, right? He hadn't been that far away when she'd seen him...]

[ It's not Asbel calling back, but a girl's voice. And she's not calling for Cheria, but someone named Timothy. Hopefully that is enough to not startle Cheria, because she would not like a dagger being thrown in her direction (who would though? Maybe a psychopath.) Her voice was definitely getting closer, though, and soon enough Cheria would hear the sound of Agnès' light footsteps as she was making her way through the maizey maze. ]

[Nagiri isn't a big fan of fairs, but he ventures into the crowds in hopes of blending in and finding a prey to draw blood from. But in the end, it's too noisy, and he hates crowds, so he ends up withdrawing to a more quiet side of the fair.

In the pumpkin carving corner, you see a tall, vampirically pale man in a worn-down cloak that doesn't stand out at all in a halloween environment, sitting quietly and skillfully carving a cute armadillo into the roundest pumpkin he could find. But where is his knife? It almost looks like he's using his fingertips to carve...?]

Becoming the Mask (the dangerous option)

[A halloween costume...? You don't need something like that to become your mask. This man has been wearing the costume of and playing the role of Tsujigiri Nagiri, the serial slasher and urban legend, for years. Isn't it comfortable to forget everything else and slip right back into that role...? Forget the guilt, the longing, the people you love, the memories you made... and just sink your blade into flesh again, carving the memory of yourself into the world...

If you find yourself alone in the corners of the festival, you might just turn around to see a tall, thin man in a ragged brown cloak, red horns sticking out of his head, red spikes from his shoulders. There's a white mask covering his face, featureless but for a sharp-toothed terrifying grin.]

Costumes for Grumps (the comedy option)

So as it turns out, there's a witch flying around above the Halloween fair, looking for grumpy people that don't care for costumes or the Halloween spirit, and magicking them up a costume. After all, it's a costume party, and according to the laws of the universe, that means Nagiri has to end up in a costume somehow.

Long story short, Nagiri is now in a "sexy vampiress" costume, running around in high heels and a black high-slit dress, looking up and around the fairgrounds, shouting loudly and angrily.]

Get back here, you witch! Where the hell are my clothes?!
