If it's been artificially colored red to protect it from predators, why does it need that in an aquarium? Like you said, it can be kept in a separate part for its own safety. The curators have full control over where it goes and whether its in the same tank as its predators. There's no reason for it to be colored other than for show.

[It may be a one-sided viewpoint, but he considers her insistence on explanations that assume that the aquarium curators are good people one-sided as well. There might've been a time when he had such a positive outlook, but he can't remember that far back.]
